PSOD wins Spring Roll 2010

Spring Roll Champs

Puget Sound Outcast went 3-0 at Spring Roll 2010

Thank you to Fort Wayne Derby Girls for hosting the 2010 Spring Roll and having a very competitive men's derby competition. Puget Sound Outcast started the morning playing against Race City (Indianapolis) who struggled to get around the wall of blue to stay with the our jammers. The Final Score was 110-29, and was the biggest point differential of any of the bouts played (81 pts).

PSOD vs Race

Our second bout was versus Harm City Homicide (Baltimore), started out as a shocker to PSOD, Harm City came out ready to whoop us and easily went up with a 20pt lead to get us on our heels. After a good timeout call by our coach, Suicide Red, she let us know that we let Harm City take us out of our game, and by the way a huge thanks goes out to Suicide Red, Streeperella, and Tonya for assisting us at Spring Roll, you girls were amazing!

Amazing Women!

Outcast went on to shut down the Harm City Homicide as OUR jammers, Hollywood, Quadzilla, Ryrod and Grim Streeper went on to win the game with a final score of 90-53.

Our final game was the championship against an upstart team (6 months!) from St. Louis called the Gatekeepers. The Gatekeepers had two dramatic comeback wins over Twin Cities(Minnesota/St.Paul) (49-35) and Dallas Deception (43-40) in their preliminary bouts to reach the championship. They also had amazing talent and matched up in size very easily with PSOD. So PSOD used their experience in our star jammers to keep this amazingly talented team under wraps to roll out to an easy 85-40 at the half.

The second half started the same with PSOD racking up the points, but as the half went on PSOD started playing more and more defensively to burn the clock. Well this worked in the Gatekeepers favor, as they slowly creeped closer with some timely powerjams and penalties from the Outcast. With Hollywood and Quadzilla taking the jammer star several times in a row to play defensive jammer the outcome worked in the Gatekeepers favor. With 2 minutes to play the Gatekeepers brought the score to 117-101 Outcast. The following two jams Gatekeepers exploited the jammer penalties from Quadzilla to bring the score to an even closer 121-115 PSOD. Well the frenzy began as Quadzilla went to the box in the final jam against Short Knox (St. Louis). Gatekeepers got lead jammer and a 5 point pass, bringing the score to 121-120. But with no time remaining on the period clock, the jam was called off by the refs, and the refs ruled that St. Louis had fielded too many players in the jam. This is was after a very long ref huddle in the infield, with a very loud and seemly upset crowd hovering.

In the end Puget Sound Outcast ended up with the Championship as they remain undefeated in tournament play after a very hard fought 121-120 victory over and amazing group of fine athletes from St. Louis. Thank you Gatekeepers for one of the best game Puget Sound Outcast has had.
